Stay Young, Go Dancing-Jane Austen Yule Ball (November 2012)

November was a really fun month for us! For our monthly big date, we attended the Jane Austen Yule Ball at the BYUI campus which they hold every year. I've wanted to go so bad but it seemed like every year Collin wouldn't be caught dead there we just couldn't make it. Since this may be our last year to go (Since Collin will be applying for pharmacy school somewhat soon) so we made a date and went! We got some of our best buds to go with us since I knew it would be cruel of me if Collin didn't have another guy to hang out with while rolling their eyes at all the fanciness of it all, because it was!

We dressed up, yes even Collin, and we both had a ball (haha!). I rented a dress for cheap and we had a friend whose husband had some clothes that fit the time period so Mr. Hanson represented a good double for Mr. Darcy! I love Jane Austen and her books and characters and of course all the movies that have come from them. It was really fun to see everyone dressed up and dancing in sync like they did in that era. They held practice dances before the dance so we went in somewhat knowing the steps. We danced the Northander Abbey dance, Mr. Beveridge's Maggot(Pride and Prejudice) and a couple others. You have to come out of your comfort zone a little bit, especially Collin because I know its not really his thing(at all) but he was such a good sport and admitted he had a good time. They had a live string quartet, refreshments and card tables where we all enjoyed a couple games of Wisk!

I loved the setting and the music, how often to you get to listen to this kind of music? It really was awesome seeing everyone dressed up, people definitely put in the effort to dress as period as possible which makes sense because they did have a best dressed competition at the end. We left about an hour before the dance ended and got something to eat with our friends afterwards.

Here are some pictures from our night out!

We stayed in the less experienced line!
