John Stelnicki, a good friend of the author, possessed a diary that had been handed down within his family for 200 years. John’s translation of that historical diary from the Polish revealed the amazing story of his ancestor, Countess Anna Maria Berezowska...
In the first book, Push Not the River, a historical romance...Anna started her diary at the age of seventeen when both her personal life and the political situation in Poland began to unravel in the 1790s. The novel balances and integrates Anna’s very personal journey with the rise and fall of Poland’s ill-fated Third of May Constitution, the first modern democratic constitution in Europe.
In the Sequel, Agaisnt A Crimson Sky, Anna finally marries her lifetime love, Jan Stelniki after being forced into a bad marriage that ultimatly ended in death. Shortly after, Jan leaves to battle war with Napoleon, leaving Anna to raise their three children all the while hoping that her love is alive and dealing with the aftermath of war as it enters the Napoléonic era.
I can't get enough of books about history and love, its the best kind. I love that we have a library right across the street from our place.
